Words on the wind

Words, just words, set free on the wind…
To fly to places they have never been.
To see things they have not seen before.
To write or compose what ‘er they adore.
Soaring up high where only birds dare to fly,
Gliding back down until they can feel ground.
Swooping in low, they now eat what you throw.
Flying away, they will rest while you pray.
Hoping, as you always do, that they won’t get away,
“Please let them know what I am trying to say.”
Praying to capture your thoughts on the page,
For you have purchased their toys and set up their cage.
Lest again, you be up long into the night,
trying, nay toiling, to pen them just right.
